IBM and Capgemini to help Nationwide implement SAP banking software

The Nationwide Building Society has signed a deal with German vendor SAP that will see the company’s Internet and telephone banking services improved and business processes streamlined to cut costs and increase productivity. Capgemini and IBM will join SAP in upgrading Nationwide’s IT system and implementing the new technology.

The SAP deal is worth £300 million and is part of Nationwide’s 2004 six-year business transformation plan. Nationwide is the first British banking institution to use SAP for Banking. It is expected to get the new service-oriented platform by 2012.

The Nationwide director for business systems transformation Darin Brumby commented on the deal: “We want to be at the forefront of this new innovation and exploit the benefits for our customers and deliver the very best products and services to members."
