Global consulting firm Deloitte has released its seventh annual report on trend predictions for 2008. The report consists of three parts, with each examining emerging trends and trying to predict how they will affect the markets in the technology, media and telecom sectors in 2008.

The report also advises companies in these sectors on the best ways to take advantage of these emerging trends in order to improve their business operations and level of success on the market.

Several crucial trends in technology are mentioned in the report: the move from anonymity to authenticated identity online, a more vital and central role of social media, the growing value of digital protection and the innovation blowback, with a growing interest in the development of products for consumers in emerging economies such as China or India.

Roopen Roy, managing director of Deloitte & Touche Consulting India, commented on the report by saying:

"Costs are becoming an important issue with companies. With the likelihood of the U.S. slowdown, there is certainly going to be a reduction in technology spends and resistance to price increases. Indian companies will therefore have to start looking at innovative ways to meet their clients' needs."
