Marketing Executives Networking Group study finds shortage of qualified executive talent

The Marketing Executives Networking Group (MENG), the premier organization of executive-level marketing professionals, today announced the findings of two membership surveys conducted in partnership with ExecuNet and Salary.com, Inc. that reveal new salary and executive job market trends. More than 70% of those surveyed agree there is a shortage of executive talent, while a subsequent study reveals MENG members experience salary parity despite gender.

MENG members participating in ExecuNet’s 16th Annual Executive Job Market Intelligence Report overwhelmingly report the demand for executive-level marketing talent continues to increase despite the threat of a recession.

“Job growth at the executive level is not moving in lock-step with the rest of the employment market,” says Mark Anderson, President and Chief Economist at ExecuNet, the executive business, career, and recruiting network. “Thanks in part to an aging workforce and global economic growth, the demand for executive talent continues to increase while the threat of a recession looms.”

A recent William E. Smith Institute study titled ‘Where the Winners Meet’ concluded that associations such as MENG and ExecuNet “provide a critical venue for winners in a profession or industry to identify themselves, to find each other, and to form mutually beneficial communities.”

“With the demand for talent so much higher than the supply, now is the time for executive-level marketers to network with their peers and find those plum jobs that don’t show up in other avenues,” said MENG president Richard Guha. “We definitely see our members seizing these opportunities.”

In addition to the ExecuNet findings, MENG also partnered with Salary.com to survey marketing salary trends. MENG members currently report salary parity despite 2006 US Department of Labor statistics that show women made 66.5% of what men made in marketing executive jobs.

“The closing of the salary gap based on gender is a welcome surprise,” said Guha. “Studies have shown the gap closing over time, but I’m thrilled to hear the playing field has leveled out. This plus the demand for executive-level talent means MENG members are positioned to succeed.”
