Deloitte employees at the Birmingham office have raised more than £30,000 for Marie Curie Cancer Care. The money will be used to help the Marie Curie Nursing service in the city.

The staff took part in a number of fundraising activities and collected a total of £30,000, which was then donated to the charity.

The fundraising activities included recycling old mobile phones, doing the Hydro Active five-kilometre run, and organizing quiz nights and other events throughout the year.

The employees at Deloitte’s Birmingham office choose a different charity to support each year. In 2009, it will be the Alzheimer Society.

“We are extemely grateful to Deloitte for choosing Marie Curie Cancer Care as its nominated charity for 2008 and for all its hard work in raising such a terrific amount of money. Without organisations like Deloitte supporting our work, many people would not have their wish to remain at home at the end of their life,” said Sue White, Birmingham development fundraiser for Marie Curie.

Richard Edwards, senior partner at the Deloitte Midlands practice, said: “This year has seen the office raise a fantastic amount of money for Marie Curie and I know the same support, enthusiasm and generosity will be shown by our employees for the office’s new nominated charity as it was for previous good causes. Like so many other local charities, the Alzheimer’s Society does an excellent job in providing help and information for those who need it most and by lending our support we hope to play a part in ensuring this invaluable service continues.”
