The World Gold Council has appointed Aram Shishmanian as the new WGC chief executive officer. Shishmanian will come on board the WGC in mid-October for a transitional period, until the current CEO James E. Burton retires in mid-December.

Aram Shishmanian currently serves on the boards for several high profile organisations. He has spent his entire career at Accenture, where he eventually became a senior partner and head of the global financial markets practice.

“I am proud to have been given this important and challenging role and look forward to leading this organisation and its talented team and and to taking World Gold Council and its leadership role in the gold market on to the next level of development,” he said.

WGC chairman Gregory C. Wilkins had this to say about Shishmanian’s appointment: “I am delighted to welcome Aram Shishmanian to WGC. His proven skills and experience will ensure that this organisation continues the strong momentum it has built up over recent years and is ready to face the inevitable challenges the gold industry will face in the future.”
